In Memory of

George Thomas Theriot

GEORGE THOMAS THERIOT, better known as Tom to his friends and family, passed away on Wednesday morning, September 3, 2008, after valiantly battling brain cancer for over two years. He was surrounded by friends and family. Tom was born July 16, 1949 in Kirbyville, Texas. He grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, where he met and married his next door neighbor, Castine, on August 14, 1971. Tom was a loyal employee of ExxonMobil, retiring recently after 36 years of service. He was the Manager of Safety, Health and Environment, and fully committed to the Company's mottos of "Nobody Gets Hurt.," "Protect tomorrow. Today," and "Security is everybody's business." He believed strongly in preserving the environment. He served as President and Board Member of The Park People, served on the Advisory Council for the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies, served on the Advisory Council of the Katy Prairie Conservancy, and supported many other philanthropic causes. Tom and Castine endowed a scholarship fund for engineering students at the University of Texas Austin as well. He was an avid sports fan, especially of his local teams, and loved his Texas Longhorns. His love of family was more important to him than anything, and they were all a great sense of joy and comfort to him. Tom was a lifelong Methodist, but also an active member and supporter of Temple Beth Torah in Humble, where he attended services regularly with his family. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Castine; his daughters, Leah and Lauren; his son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law, Emily, and his adored grandchildren, Grace and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his father I. R. "Bob" Theriot, and is also survived by his mother, Nadine; sisters, Brenda Austin and Diane Maspero and her husband, Ron; and brothers, Beau and Joe and his wife, Mary. Visitation will be at the Kingwood Funeral Home, 22800 Highway 59 North, Kingwood, Texas 77339 on Thursday, September 4, 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, at Forest Park, The Woodlands, 18000 I-45 South, Conroe, Texas 77384 at 2:00 p.m., with Rabbi Dan M. Gordon officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, designated to Glioblastoma Cancer Research, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210 or Temple Beth Torah, 320 Shallow Drive, Humble, Texas 77338.

I graduated in '67 and my sister, Sandra Beavens, graduated in '63. We were both n the Hussars. I knew Tommy Theriot - such a nice guy. Am saddened by his death, but he left many contributions to be admired. My sister and I both live in Staten Island now and she had worked in the world trade center for years. Fortunately, her company moved to NJ not long before 9/11, but she still got caught up in the disaster when it happened. I miss home and always speak fondly of my home town of Port Arthur TX.

Thanks again,

Patricia Beavens
